A small village in Jharkland, India believed that one of its young women was cursed.
The curse being that if 18-year-old Mangli Munda married a man, she would pass on terrible luck to her husband which may cause him to lose his life.
The solution?
Mangli had to marry a dog to break the curse so that she can live a happy, curse-free life with a man in the future.

Mangli's dad, Sri Amnmunda said the ceremony was for the best as he would not want his daughter to be cursed any longer than necessary.
"The village elders told us that we should organise the wedding as soon as we can," he told Barcroft TV. "We had to make sure that the evil spell is destroyed."
Amnmunda found a stray dog named Sheru and chose him as the "groom-to-be" for his daughter's traditional and grand Hindu wedding.
Sheru even got chauffeured around in a limousine!
Mangli, however does not agree with the proceedings, but is only doing it for the sake of a better life.
"I am not happy with this marriage," she said, according to the Metro.

The good news is that everything done was just ceremonial and not legal.
So Mangli can get married to a man as soon as she finds the perfect candidate.
Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be a dog of a man.
